Myopic and self serving Mayor Carolyn Goodman, City of Las Vegas, writes the FDA and Ignores Vapers

About a week ago I was searching the submitted FDA comments and found the letter Mayor Carolyn Goodman, City of Las Vegas, Nevada had submitted to the FDA. I could hardly believe my eyes. One of the few Mayors in the USA to submit comments to the FDA! The letter is myopic and self serving. Not a single word about vapers or vaping. The entire content of the letter deals with the premium cigar industry which is also covered in the FDA regulations. While Mayor Goodman makes some valid points about the premium cigar industry and it’s financial impact on Vegas, her failure to address the Vaping industry and vapers is morally and ethically repugnant. A few extracts from her letter:

” Strict regulations such as those being considered by FDA would not only threaten the aforementioned trade shows, but also potentially devastate the traditional small business cigar shops of Las Vegas, within the state of Nevada, and across the nation.”

“We hope you take these thoughts into consideration, and recognize that as the nation’s economy improves, we should be careful with regulatory actions that can adversely impact local and regional existing businesses, such as the noted premium cigar interests of Las Vegas.”

Mayor Goodman fails to mention:

  • Their are over 50 Vaping B&Ms in the Vegas Valley who could be forced out of business. Say good by to jobs and the positive impact on the Vegas economy.
  • Vegas does host a couple of Vaping conventions and shows every year. Given the growth of Vaping, this will soon eclipse cigars.
  • Death rates will INCREASE from smoking in the Vegas valley because vaping equipment and supplies will no longer be available and or severely restricted and some vapers will return to smoking.
  • Residents of the Vegas Valley who have never vaped will never get a chance to embrace this technology which saves lives.
