Sarah Buhr from TechCrunch LIES about Vaping. Follow up.

June 8, 2014

I recently received an Email which is so well written and jammed packed with facts and a point by point rebuttal, that I wanted to share it with you.

The opening paragraph of the Sarah Buhr article reads: “…Forget for just a moment that e-cigarettes contain several of the same toxic substances in regular cigarettes but in higher quantities such as carbon monoxide, heavy metals and several substances used in antifreeze known to cause cancer….”

To Whom It May Concern:

Sarah Buhr, one of your columnists, has done a disservice to your publication by spreading debunked myths with her recent e-cigarette article dated 3 June 2014. Some of the falsehoods strongly suggest that she is being influenced by anti-tobacco groups and the pharmaceutical association pushing ineffective cessation products, i.e. patches and gums that do not work.

1. E-Cigarettes emit Carbon Monoxide: MYTH. E-Liquid consists of Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin, FDA Approved Flavor Additives, and Nicotine. All of these substances with the exception of Nicotine have been granted GRAS or Generally regarded as safe designation from The FDA. Since Liquid is heated by an electric current, no combustion takes place. Thus, anyone who has take even General Chemistry, which Sarah Buhr has not…well because she is a lib arts journalist lightweight and took bimbo lightweight courses in college, you cannot generate CO without combustion with oxygen.

2. E-Liquid Contains Heavy Metals: Something Sarah Buhr Made Up or Conveyed by an Ignorant Anti-Tobacco Zealot. Since none of the substances in E-Liquids listed above contain any metals, there are no traces of mercury (Hg) or any other heavy metals.

3. E-Liquid Contains anti-freeze. Again, Sarah Buhr’s ignorance of basic chemistry is on display. Ethylene Glycol IS NOT Propylene Glycol any more than Nicotine is Niacin or Nicotinic Acid.
